UMDM Sponsored Hospitals UMDM helps many children by funding pedi

UMDM helps many children by funding pediatric rehabilitation programs at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. The money raised goes towards numerous rehabilitation programs not covered by insurance plans. The goal of these programs is to not only help the kids strengthen their muscles and develop necessary motor skills, but to also give them the opportunity to spend time with other kids and gain confidence within themselves. The benefits from such programs are amazing, and the children truly grow from these opportunities.

At the Beaumont Pediatric Rehabilitation Center (located in Royal Oak, Michigan), children are given therapeutic services and participate in a variety of health-promoting programs. The money UMDM raises is used to underwrite the costs of programs such as dance therapy, martial arts, therapeutic massage, horseback riding, and yoga.

The Ann Arbor, Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital’s Division of Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation includes a diverse team of highly experienced, full-time pediatric specialists. Funds raised annually from UMDM serve to sustain several pediatric rehabilitation programs. Programs include recreational therapy like snow skiing, wheelchair sports, aquatic therapy, horseback riding, and martial arts.

The money allocated to C.S. Mott also funds the Child Life Department. The goal of the Child Life Department is to provide support services aimed at reducing the stress and trauma of hospitalization for patients and their families. The department utilizes a diverse staff of specialists, activity therapists, teachers, and an art therapist to meet the social, emotional, and educational needs of its patients. Some of the programs that directly benefit from UMDM include transplant and discharge parties, cooking and craft projects, and Dreams and Wings, which is an opportunity for children to take short plane rides over Ann Arbor. UMDM has also made it possible for the Child and Family Life Department to expand its school re-entry program to accommodate rehabilitation patients, making patients’ readjustment to school easier.

Funds generated through UMDM help children grow and allow them to interact with caring and compassionate people. Thanks to the University of Michigan Dance Marathon and those who support its cause, as these children have opportunities they would have never had before.
