This obviously isn't really the right type of vice for woodworking, I'd say it's more of a metal and general use vice. I can't help but compare it to my old blue British made 4" / 1 ton vice that I have on my metalworking bench, especially since it would equate to about the same amount to replace.On a plus this one has:- Pretty good build and finish.- An easily adjustable swivel base that seems to lock in position fairly well (although it could do with a washer to widen the face of the threaded handle).- I like the under jaws that accommodate clamping for bar and tubing.- Side play is fairly minimal, and actually less than my old British vice.- The thin and narrow design gives better access and clamping possibilities for some jobs.It's not quite as good in terms of:- Overall ruggedness, it is definitely a much lighter duty vice. It feels sturdy but not industrial quality like my old one.- The jaw faces are a bit odd, narrow and protrude from the top. I feel like deeper faces, with less top overhang would offer more grip and long term durability.- Tolerances could be a bit better for the base clamping and mating faces.- The cutaway design of the casting below the anvil / hammering pad maybe doesn't inspire the most confidence (also it's just rough cast instead of being faced).Overall it does feel like a good adaptable and sturdy vice, but more suited to the lighter duty jobs. The jaw width is good, and the swivel is really handy, so I'm happy to be using it as an upgrade for my smaller vice that had this role in the past.

I've used this mostly for work on metal and it's been great - good grip, good jaw width, easy controllability and holds well to the bench. The jaws are far narrower than my old blue one, so might not provide quite as much strength if woodworking and sawing perhaps, but it's reasonably heavy (not *as* heavy as traditional blue) and sturdy and I think it does a great job for the cost.
