Dancer Fundraising Letter Template

“Since I began attending the University of Michigan, I have become involved in a great organization on campus.  The University of Michigan Dance Marathon, founded in 1997, is currently the largest year-round, student-run philanthropic organization at the University of Michigan and we raise funds and awareness for pediatric rehabilitation.  The primary beneficiaries are physical and occupational therapy programs at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor and William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

UM Dance Marathon sponsors programs like the Mott summer enrichment program, martial arts therapy, Arbor Quest recreational tree climbing, TOPSoccer, and special needs cycling program in order to improve muscle control, strength, and coordination.  These programs give the children a chance to participate in activities that would otherwise be out of reach.  All the programs are social in nature, and without the support from Dance Marathon many would not exist.

Last year, its ninth year on campus, Dance Marathon was able to raise over $325,000, bringing together thousands of volunteers from the campus community as well as the surrounding community to unite for a good cause.  The money to put on the marathon is donated by corporate sponsors, which enables all the money raised by dancers to go directly to funding therapy programs for children.

On the weekend of March 24-25th, 2007, the University of Michigan Dance Marathon will celebrate its tenth anniversary!  During this weekend, I will join hundreds of other dancers, who stand on their feet for children who cannot.  This is my (first, second, third, fourth) year as a (dancer, dancer captain) in Dance Marathon.  As a (dancer, dancer captain), I will be standing on my feet for thirty consecutive hours playing with some of the children that receive the benefits of the therapy programs, dancing, eating, and having a great time.  (Insert personal story about the marathon, your dance marathon experience so far, or your expectations).

In order to make it to the marathon, I have to do my own fundraising for the children.  I have set a personal fundraising goal of $_____ by March 16, 2007.  UM Dance Marathon would not be as successful as it has been without support from friends and family.  This being the tenth anniversary, Dance Marathon has set its fundraising goals higher than ever.  To help us accomplish our aspirations, I am asking for your support in achieving my fundraising goals.  Your contribution will not only support pediatric rehabilitation, it will also bring a smile to the face of many children.  Dance Marathon’s motto is, “making kids smile, maize and blue style,” and with your donation, another child will have a reason to smile!
