I took a chance that it might cut through steel gas pipes in an older property where the pipes were running flush against a wall and near a corner, so very difficult to access with anything other that an angle grinder or possibly one of these tools. I didn't want to use an angle grinder as the location was awkward and the debris and sparking concerned me. The gas pipe was flushed clean some time ago, but anything which reduced sparking felt safer. Besides this one tricky task, the multitool is being used for some wood work cutting and grouting, so it is versatile. I noted that the tool spec said metal + wood, but it had Aluminium down as the metal, not steel. I decided to give it a try with the odd squirt of WD40. The good news is that it worked, although it took a few minutes to get through and the teeth were not damaged on the tool. Just for that tricky work, I would give it 5 stars to get flush with the wall. The portability and versatility give it a deserved 5 stars. The only disadvantage I can see is that it will not sustain continuous useage for very long as the battery will flatten. For sustained use, then I would get a second battery.

I already have an excellent Bosch multitool, the PMF 190E, but needed to do some work away from a mains supply,. The choice was 50m of extension cord over wet grass or this...When I got the 190E I thought about battery power but went wired because I really couldn't be bothered with batteries. No stamina, ages to recharge and limited lifetime wasn''t compelling at that time. What changed my mind was needing a saw for this project, and rather than the 50m cable reel I looked at the new Bosch Easycut 12. That turned out to be a much better tool than I expected - the battery technology has moved on quite a bit, delivering significant power when required but also needing only an hour for a full recharge.Just as the Easycut doesn't vibrate as much as I remember jigsaws doing, this multitool feels less vibratory than the 190E, but does just as good a job and is lighter to boot. Battery life so far seems fine, but even so there will be times when it runs out just as it's needed a bit more. An hour to charge isn't long, but if you have more than one 12V for All Bosch tool, like the Easycut 12 or the equally excellent EasyImpact 12, then you can have one battery on charge as you work with the other. Given the high price of a battery, an entire tool for a little more makes the cost more bearable and is easier to justify, Well, it was for me...Speaking of which, as the name implies, this comes with a 10.8V battery and charger. Nevertheless, it is compatible with the newer 12V batteries - they are all interchangeable. A certain amount of rebranding and name changing has confused matters, but there is no problem using the 12V batteries with this (and the 10.8V from this in the 12V tools and chargers). One thing that isn't shouted about too much is the E (for 'Eco') setting on the speed control. This puts the tool into maximum speed mode but detects when it isn't being used and reduces the power accordingly to extend battery life. It is very clever - you can feel the tool almost fall asleep when it's not cutting something, but as soon as you introduce it to material it goes at full pelt again.

Great bit of kit, lithium battery handles the workload really well and the absence of a lead makes working much easier. I have quite a range of the Bosch power4all tools and they so far have never disappointed. My only gripe is that the battery for this unit is different than for the other tools I have in the power4all range. I can sort of understand that it is designed to fit the shape of the tool but it is a bit irksome that it then needs its own charger. Just to add to this irritation I recently purchased a Bosch hedgetrimmer 18v power4all and discovered that the battery for this is a different shape the to earlier units, At least it still fits the charger of the rest of the 18v lithium range but you need to look carefully now when purchasing
