I have an ocean view about 1 mile from the sea. So I bought this beautiful telescope to add a nautical look to my living room and to see the whales and vessels in the distance.THE LOOK is spot on. As you enter the room, it adds that nostalgic nautical look and feel. The telescope itself has a respectable weight, feel and finish. The wood tripod looks almost as good but the feel and finish is a little less great close up. As nautical decor this is a nice piece at a great price. The tripod wood has a good look but it made from inexpensive dowels stained to look the part. The legs meet the expectations of a decorative piece at this price point and are not fine furniture. But the piece is not priced as fine furniture would be. Most of the brass fittings on the tripod look good enough but are not as substantial as the telescope it supports. It is designed to look good at an affordable price.THE OPTICALS are not as good as the overall look and feel. It is not that they don't accurately magnify or adjust focus, but perhaps because the telescope itself is probably a little more "authentic" than people might like. Because the lenses are not filtered or polarized, the clarity of the distant images through these polished glass lenses is not as clear as you might find on a pair of plastic $15 binoculars that have coated opticals that can cut through the haze typically found on the ocean. These uncoated lenses will simply magnify the haze in the distance. I will experiment with photo filters to make this beautiful decor more useful.THE TELESCOPE MOUNT where the tripod supports the telescope is substantial enough to support the telescope, but too loose to reliably hold the heavy telescope in place to easily adjust the focus or position. It relies on a fairly substantial bolt to hold too much weight. I may try a thin rubber gasket to stop drooping or movement.Overall, the piece is more decorative than useful, but coated lenses and a better fitting mount could fix these functional deficiencies for under $2 - which is a little frustrating.

Bought for my husband as a gift. Opened after the window to return closed or it would most definitely be sent back. Doesn’t sit level. Has studs on bottom of legs that will eat up a floor (hardwood especially but would pick carpet as well). Appears in video that there should be a lens cap on both ends - ours has only one. Flimsy. Will easily tip over as it just isn’t stable. Had to use mallet to straighten front lens as it wasn’t properly seated - put on at an obvious angle. Very very very very disappointed - can you tell I’m disappointed???!

I’ve seen a few bad reviews about the optics on these more inexpensive telescopes but I gotta say this one is pretty sweet! I live at the beach and I like to get closer views of the boats passing by, this works just great for that. For the price I think this product is amazing. I’m sure I could spend $1,000 and get one with better optics but this works just fine for more.

meets my visual expectations, yet all over poor quality.parts doesn't fit well, which means wobbly, which makes it very difficult to adjust on a target.logistic wise, my rate is 10 of 10.
