I have a lot of Osprey packs, and most of them I love for their quality and thoughtful designs (one notable exception is their "Transporter" waist pack, which I hate, but I digress...). If you are into long distance/cross country mountain biking, or like to visit mountain bike parks and spend all day riding the trails, this is a GREAT pack - it has room for all the essentials and the included tool roll is absolutely brilliant! The frame system is also pretty great on this pack because it fits snug and doesn't bounce around, but flexes with your body movement really well. The "Airscape" back also does a reasonably good job of breathing (I definitely notice it when I start a descent after a long climb where my back has gotten all sweaty and then immediately cools down due to the airflow behind the back). The hip strap works really well too - it is wide enough to actually provide good lateral support and keeps the pack centered on the big whoops. The little pockets are handy for a snack bar or chapstick, but can be tricky to access while riding because they sit pretty far back (even for someone with a 32" waist).Since this is sold as a "hydration pack" I should address those features as well. One thing I really like in a hydration pack is an insulated tube and bladder compartment. I used to have a High Sierra unit from Costco of all places that was my absolute FAVE in this regard - it would keep my water chilled a long time even when temps were in the 80's. This pack lacks insulation in the main compartment, but the tube is "kinda" insulated by the zippered enclosure that it rides in. The main benefit of this zippered enclosure is that it keeps the tub from dangling around. The tubes usually come very long and need to be cut to length for your body and style of riding. The 2.5L capacity is plenty for most all day outings, and the quality of the bag itself is really nice and cleverly designed to make it easy to fill. I've used these hydration bladders in day packs and multi-day backpacks and they have held up incredibly well over the years.Overall, the build quality and feature set makes this pack worth the price, particularly considering that Osprey generally has fantastic warranty support. Over the 30 or so years I have been using Osprey gear, I have had a couple of pieces replaced "no questions asked' even without a receipt. I don't know if they are still this flexible, but this past success with the brand gives me confidence in their products.

There are many good things about this biking specific backpack, which I will get to. The one negative is the chest strap, the slim one that goes across the chest. It's crooked by maybe 1/2 inch. I have adjusted it repeatedly as I thought the issue was elsewhere but when the vertical straps are completely even, the chest strap is definitely crooked. Maybe I just got a defective backpack but given the brand name and the price point, this is surprising, hence knocking it one star. Otherwise it's very comfortable to wear and adjustable. The good: this is a purpose-built backpack for biking with a tool kit and even a helmet hook. It is designed to be used with a water bladder, which is included. There are not water bottle pockets that you might expect on a hiking backpack. However, it does double for other purposes. If you're doing anything where you are using your hands constantly and are not expecting to be getting into the backpack much - like rollerblading or walking dogs - this is still a great product.Aesthetically, it is a very nice looking backpack if appearance is a factor for you.

Osprey has been around a long time and that experience shows in the design and construction here. The fit is comfortable and ergonomic – supportive and stable without being too compressive. The waist pockets are mesh on both sides, so they don't stifle whether or not you've loaded them. The bag has just the right amount of pockets and compartments, all sensibly sized to encourage good weight distribution. All the fittings, and pulls and especially buckles are easy to use even with full-finger gloves. The zipper pull on the tool storage even has a dedicated clip to keep it from dangling and getting snagged or making noise.I'm impressed with the hydration system. The bladder has a stiff plastic frame attached to the top half, which makes it easy to slot in and out of its dedicated compartment whether it's full or empty. That compartment's asymmetrical zipper continues down the right shoulder strap to contain the hose - it's neat, seamless, and super easy to use. However, the magnetic chest-strap buckle is not as intuitive to use as I've come to expect from other brands - but it also has to hold onto the hydration hose. This product allows you to enjoy the outdoors more, and is a winner in my book.

I'm more of a weekend warrior when it comes to bike riding, but this pack had features I couldn't pass up. Last year I became an Osprey pack convert when I got the women's Tempest 9L pack for hiking. It's been such a huge upgrade from any other backpack I've used. This Raptor pack has a lot of the same features: the airflow grid (although the design of it is a bit different on this model) to keep your back cool, the "lid-lock" helmet clip (love this), and a streamlined, non-bulky design. The Raptor holds 10L yet it's more narrow than my 9L Tempest. One thing I didn't like about riding with my Tempest as opposed to hiking was that my arms would rub against the waist pack pockets while using it for biking. The Raptor is meant for cycling, so it's even more streamlined, and designed for being worm while seated on a bike as opposed to upright. Another plus is the included 2.5L reservoir, with an improved system for containing it compared to the Tempest, which is extremely difficult to load a full reservoir into. The dedicated tool area is a cool feature, although I found it hard to roll up and get back into place correctly. Osprey includes a ton of other little gadgets on their packs. I haven't even found out the use for most of them on my older hiking pack, so I'm sure I'll be in for a few pleasant surprises the longer I use this pack. Many of my friends have been using their Osprey gear for years and have had success with the company standing behind their product if and when something goes wrong. So I feel like I've made a good investment due to the quality of the pack. FYI: I'm a woman with 17" torso length and this pack is supposed to fit 17-21" torsos according to Osprey. You may want to head over to their website and learn how to take this measurement to ensure that this pack will fit you comfortably.

Fantastic quality, as usual. The pack is small but doesn't feel small on the back - the shape is perfect to sit nicely against the natural curve of the back and ribs. The reservoir setup took a moment for me to access as I tried to figure out where it was - Osprey have used the zip for that compartment as part of the tube retention mechanism. The tube is held in place for most of it's length by a zipper than closes over it down the right strap - when opened, the tube is free and the reservoir compartment is open. I like this, though if you are a lefty it does mean you are stuck with the right-hand straw. The reservoir is large and sturdy, with a well-implemented sealing system. I found it to be watertight. The reservoir is held in place using a simple toggle, with the shape making it unlikely it would jump free at any point. This allows the reservoir some movement, which seems like it reduces the stress on the connection point - I could see a fully-loaded reservoir eventually tearing on more static connections.Aside from that, there is good storage in the bag. Enough for some warm/rain layers, first aid kit, and some food. You won't be going camping with just this bag, but it has enough room to be prepared. The repair kit storage is a good addition - you can store some of your essential bike repair gear in here. I found it can take my multitool (chain tool, allen wrenches, ratchet wrench with multiple bits, puncture repair kit, extra tire levers, and a spare tube). I didn't have any issues with space and I don't even have the "best" gear (which is usually smaller in inverse proportion to its price). As for riding, I found that it was comfy while loose and while tightly cinched, though the more... ahem...robust gentleperson may find the belt strap a little restrictive when leaning forward. I didn't notice any major problem with not wearing the waist strap. The limited volume of the bag means it is unlikely to be so heavy that the waist strap becomes essential. This is a comfortable bag for a niche use - do not buy if you are looking for a hiking day pack as the biking-specific features are everywhere and will limit the value you get out of it. If you're going for a day out on your bike, this is the option to use. You can carry everything you need to help get you home and look good doing it.Easy recommendation.
